COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) – Donations from across the country and the world continue to pour into Louisiana after historic flooding. On Thursday a giant truckload of supplies from Atlanta was dropped off at the Food Bank of Covington.

“We care about you guys, and we support you guys, and we are here to lend a helping hand and to help in time of need,” Laurie Holbrook with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. “We hope that you feel that, and you feel, uplifted and encouraged, and you can move forward.”

9,400 Mormon Helping Hands volunteers from six states sorted through blankets, clothes, food, and other supplies getting it ready for flood victims.

Governor John Bel Edwards asked faith-based organizations to help flood victims, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints responded, sending a semi, filled with supplies from Atlanta.

The Mormon Helping Hands volunteers will also help remove Sheetrock and debris from homes hit by flooding. And more trucks are on the way.
