NEW ORLEANS — Today, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced that the city of New Orleans, in partnership with the Greater New Orleans Foundation, will donate an additional $130,000 in grants through the NOLA Pay It Forward Fund to community organizations that are helping those affected by the recent major flooding in Louisiana.
Previously, Mayor Landrieu announced $40,000 in grants to four community organizations providing immediate response and relief support.
“The people of New Orleans know what it’s like to suffer through a disaster, and we will never forget those who helped us when we needed it most,” Landrieu said. “Through this donation, we hope to pay it forward to other communities that are starting to recover and rebuild. We are grateful to those who generously contributed to the NOLA Pay It Forward Fund. But there is more work to do and we ask our residents to continue helping our neighbors affected by this devastating event. I am grateful for SBP and other organizations that are bringing people and resources together to make a difference.”
Through the NOLA Pay It Forward Fund, more than 10 community organizations will receive grants supporting relief, rebuilding, small and disadvantaged businesses, health and education, and faith-based organizations:
- Catholic Charities of New Orleans – to support ongoing disaster relief work
- Red Cross – to support ongoing disaster relief work in St. Helena Parish
- Coastal Communities Consulting – to provide 500 Vietnamese families living in impacted areas with culturally appropriate food supplements to disaster aid
- United Way of Southeast Louisiana – to support ongoing disaster relief work in Tangipahoa Parish
- SBP – to support gutting, cleanup, and volunteer coordination work in East Baton Rouge Parish
- Rebuilding Together, Habitat for Humanity and Together Baton Rouge partnership – to support the hiring of up to 300 flood-affected Baton Rouge residents for cleanup and rebuilding work
- NOLA Tree Project – to support gutting, cleanup and volunteer coordination work in Denham Springs
- Evacuteer – to support volunteer coordination and information dissemination
- Market Umbrella – to support Market Umbrella farmers with field cleanup, mitigation and quick replanting in order to minimize the impact of flooding on their farms and livelihoods
- Baton Rouge Area Chamber – to support the Louisiana Small Business Rebirth Fund & provide small business assistance grants to small & minority owned businesses & DBEs across serve all affected parishes
- NEWCORP – to support the Disaster Relief Loan Fund to assist small businesses in Baton Rouge and neighboring communities in their path to recovery, with special emphasis on businesses that can immediately assist in recovery
- Alzheimer’s Services of Capital Area – to support caregivers and their Alzheimer’s-affected loved ones in Baton Rouge and surrounding parishes;
- Urban League – to support outreach and engagement related to education in Baton Rouge while working with Star Hill Baptist Church;
- To support churches that are assisting disaster-impacted areas.
