NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – We all knew it, and now the world knows it.
The New Orleans Pelicans’ King Cake Baby has been named by USA Today as the “creepiest mascot in sports.”
It tops the list of 11 creepy mascots, including No. 2 – the New Orleans Pelican – Cincinnati’s Mr. Red and Iona College’s Killian.

A whopping 43 percent of people WGNO polled in January described the King Cake Baby as “nightmare-inducing.”
We think they were being generous, although he did seem to win the hearts of WGNO reporters, as you can see by the picture below.
