NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – No matter what the scoreboard reads at the end of Sunday’s game, jersey-wearing fans of the New Orleans Saints Saints and the Seattle Seahawks can score free admission to the New Orleans Museum of Art on Tuesday, November 1, to view a collection of artistic treasures from Seattle Seahawk’s owner, Paul G. Allen.
The free admission game plan is a team effort between the Saints and NOMA.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our visitors to appreciate these major works of fine art,” Montine McDaniel Freeman Director Susan Taylor said. “Seeing Nature provides a real-life art history lesson and we hope visitors from the region will take advantage of this rare opportunity to appreciate these pieces, which have never been show together before.”
Seeing Nature: Landscape Masterworks from the Paul G. Allen Family Collection, is on view at NOMA through January 15.
New Orleans is the only scheduled showing for the exhibition in the southern U.S. There are five landscapes by French impressionist painter Claude Monet, as well as works by Paul Cezanne, Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keeffe and Gustav Klimt. Thomas Moran, Jan Brueghel the Younger and others are also part of the collection, which spans 400 years and includes 39 paintings in all.
According to a NOMA press release, Mr. Allen is one of the world’s leading philanthropists, having given more than $2 billion in his lifetime. He is the co-founder of Microsoft.
A reminder for Louisiana residents: Thanks to the Helis Foundation, admission to NOMA is always free on Wednesdays for anyone with a Louisiana ID. Teenagers also get free admission every day for the remainder of 2016.
