NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The New Orleans Zephyrs will have a new name by November 15, the team announced today on Twitter.
The tweet, billing the name change as “the next chapter of New Orleans Baseball,” drew commentary right away from fans of the team.
Fans upset by some of the entries on the shortlist of possible new names for the Zephyrs, including the New Orleans Baby Cakes, voiced their displeasure in retweets.

The Zephyrs contracted the San Diego based Brandiose marketing company to run a “Name the Team” in June of this year, and the Baby Cakes name emerged shortly after alongside the “Night Owls,” “Cajun Crawfish,” and “Red Eyes.”
Owners of the Jacksonville Suns recently hired Brandiose to rename their team, according to the Florida Times-Union.
The Suns are now known as the “Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.”
