NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – News with a Twist reporters Meghan Kluth and Kenny Lopez took part in the fifth annual Peoples Health Supermarket Sweep this afternoon.
Kluth and Lopez competed against an assortment of other local celebrities in the homage to the classic game show, zipping up and down the aisles of the Breaux Mart location on Severn in Metairie.
Lopez made a beeline for the turkey display, and Kluth helped him pile their shopping cart high with frozen birds. All of the collected food was donated after the event.
Breaux Mart and Second Harvest Food Bank team up with Peoples Health every year to raise money and donations to feed area residents.
Last year’s Supermarket Sweep event resulted in over $10,000 worth of donations to Second Harvest, which translated into thousands of holiday meals for seniors.
The Advocate’s team ended up winning the event, with NOLA.com coming in second. Fox 8 landed in third place, WGNO earned the fourth spot, WDSU ended in fifth place, and WWL rounded out the competition with a sixth place finish.
When the dust settled, the competitors had gathered $8,206.85 worth of groceries in three minutes.
