NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – It was a busy morning for the New Orleans Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to two fires back to back on the morning of November 30, starting shortly after 5 a.m.
The first call went out at 5:16 a.m., when a fire broke out in the 6800 block of Mayo Boulevard in New Orleans East.
Forty-eight firefighters responded to that fire, which occurred in an abandoned two story camelback multi-unit apartment building, according to the NOFD. The fire reached two alarms before it was contained.
No neighboring buildings were damaged in that fire.
The next call came at 5:48 a.m. in the 2300 block of Spain Street, where a single story duplex undergoing renovation was on fire. Twenty-one firefighters responded to the blaze, containing most of the damage to the rear of the building.
The one-alarm fire was under control by 6:24 a.m., according to the NOFD.
The causes of both fires are still under investigation
