LULING, La. – A LaPlace woman died this morning after a crash with a fuel tanker that went up in flames.
According to State Police, 44-year-old Chalanta Brown of LaPlace was driving a dump truck in the right lane of I-310 South. She was driving very slowly, police said.
An 18-wheeler carrying 8,000 gallons of gasoline rear-ended the dump truck. The fuel tank became fully engulfed in flames.
Brown died at the scene. The driver of the fuel truck was able to escape. He was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.
I-310 south remains closed due to necessary road repairs. If you are planning on traveling through that area, please use an alternate route. Once the area is safe for travel it will be reopened.
