NEW ORLEANS – A Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office SUV flipped on I-10 this morning while trying to assist the East Jefferson Levee District Police with a high-speed chase.
According to a news release from the Levee District, an officer stopped a vehicle with an expired license plate in the 4200 block of South Drive in Jefferson Parish. The female driver sped away, prompting a pursuit by the Levee District officer and a JPSO patrol car.
The two units pulled the driver over at the intersection of the I-10 Service Road and Lake Avenue in Metairie, but the driver sped away again, hitting the EJLD officer in the leg. He sustained no injuries and, along with the JPSO unit, pursued the vehicle as it weaved in and out of traffic, finally crashing into the JPSO unit at the intersection of Carrollton Avenue and Airline Drive near Costco.
The officers apprehended her and she was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The JPSO officer was not injured. The officers found a bag of heroin in her vehicle, which was confirmed as such by the JPSO Crime Scene lab.
The woman’s name is not being released at this time. She also has an attachment for her arrest for theft.
