NEW ORLEANS – On Wednesday night, a woman was struck and killed by a Mardi Gras float in New Orleans. Just three days later, a second person was killed in the same manner. More than a dozen parades are still scheduled to roll Suday through Tuesday, however, there will be major changes in an effort to make them safer for parade-goers.
On Sunday morning, Mayor LaToya Cantrell issued the following statement on Mardi Gras safety:
