NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced that at least 70 percent of Americans can remove their masks indoors– including inside schools.
But many parishes in Louisiana are not included in the relaxed guidelines.
The eased restrictions come as daily Covid numbers across the nation are falling, with hospitalizations approaching the lowest level since the omicron surge. The number of Covid-related deaths is also down nationwide, by 18 percent in the last week.
However, several parishes in Louisiana, mostly to the southeast of the New Orleans-area, and in the northeast corner of the state, still have high levels of Covid.
The CDC has created a new tool to help communities decide what prevention steps to take based on the latest data.
Levels can be low, medium, or high and are determined by looking at hospital beds being used, hospital admissions, and the total number of new Covid cases in an area.
