NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Police in New Orleans began investigating a shootout in Holy Cross that left two people injured on Wednesday, March 2.

Just before 1:30 p.m., NOPD responded to the 800 block of Gordon Street, near the road’s intersection with Dauphine Street.

Initial reports indicate two male victims sustained gunshot wounds in the incident.

According to the NOPD’s Major Offense Log released on Thursday, March 3, the shooting occurred when a suspect approached the victim with a handgun. The victim then produced a handgun and both men fired at each other.

The suspect then reportedly ran several blocks away to the 5600 block of St. Claude Avenue.

Both men were transported to a local hospital by EMS. Their conditions were not listed.

Other details of the shooting, including why shots were fired, were not immediately available.
