Hank Allen

Chief Meteorologist Hank Allen joined the WGNO team in March of 2007. Before that, he worked his first television job as a meteorologist in Sioux City, Iowa. Hank is a member of the American Meteorological Society and holds its seal as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist. He graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in broadcast meteorology and a minor in communication.

Hank is originally from Marietta, Ga., which is a northern suburb of Atlanta. He became interested in weather at an early age, watching summertime thunderstorms and severe weather and hoping to get a day off school from snow in the winter. That passion has led him to a career in which he hopes to pass along accurate weather information to viewers and potentially life-saving information in times of severe weather.

In his free time, Hank enjoys working out, travelling, watching sports and learning about history. He’s also a big fan of the craft cocktail movement and is happy to be in New Orleans where the movement really started to take root. Once a year, he takes off to go storm chasing in the middle of the country, and one of his favorite things is to get in a car with a map and explore the small towns of America. He also has season tickets to MSU football and loves tailgating before the home games.

Hank can always be reached via email at hallen@digital-staging.wgno.com, on twitter @HankAllenwx and on Facebook at Hank Allen WGNO.
