New Orleans students encouraged to show ‘creative expression’ in Black History Month Art Contest

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Orleans Parish students are being encouraged by the team at the New Orleans Public Library to participate in the Black History Month Art Contest.

Library leaders are giving students in grades Kindergarten to 12 the chance to celebrate Black History Month through creative expression following the theme “Black Americans and the Arts.”

The theme focuses on the influences and impacts that Black Americans had in the arts such as music, culture, visual art, film, dance and more.

2023’s theme was Black resistance.

Winners of the 2023 Black History Month Art Contest:

Participants will receive a free book for entering the contest.

First-place winners from each grade category will receive a gift card. First through third-place winners will also receive a printed poster of their work.
