NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)–Local fast-food workers will protest for higher wages in front of the McDonald’s at 2856 S. Claiborne Avenue at 11 a.m. Thursday.

The chain announced a new plan to pay employees at corporate-owned restaurants $1 more than state minimum beginning this summer.  But, just ten percent of McDonald’s nationwide are corporate-owned.  The rest, operated by franchisees, will not be covered under the new plan.

Local workers dismissed McDonald’s announcement as a publicity stunt. They are demanding the company raise wages to $15 an hour for all workers and respect their right to form a union.
