WGNO

Think you know pralines? Bet you’ve never had them like this before!

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — These days, there’s a day for everything and June 24th is the official holiday to celebrate New Orleans’ most famous candy: the praline!

The 24th is National Pralines Day.

There are plenty of great places to find the delicious, sugary treats around town and one of our favorites is Aunt Sally’s.

To mark the occasion, they’re handing out pralinettes at their shops and offering free shipping on orders over $25.

Aunt Sally’s joined us in the kitchen on Good Morning New Orleans with a couple unique ways to serve ’em up.

They first created a praline pancake (recipe below), then topped a bowl of vanilla ice cream with the crumbled pralines and praline pecan topping.

Trust us when we tell you, it was DELICIOUS!

Aunt Sally’s Praline Pancakes

Ingredients:

Instructions:

Combine all of the wet ingredients (buttermilk, eggs, vanilla, and melted butter) into one bowl.  Combine all of the dry ingredients (flour, pecans, sugar, baking powder, and salt) into a second bowl.

Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and stir gently until just blended. Don’t worry about a few lumps. Let the batter sit undisturbed for ten minutes.

Crumble 5 of Aunt Sally’s Original Creole Pralines into small pieces.

Melt a couple Tablespoons of butter on a hot griddle, and pour pancakes out using a ¼ cup measure.  As soon as bubbles start to form, sprinkle praline crumbles on top.  Cook for 2 minutes, then flip pancakes to finish cooking on the other side.

Serve with your choice of topping: whipped cream, pecan syrup, blueberries, lemon curd, or for a super-sweet treat, Aunt Sally’s Praline Pecan Topping.
