NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Watch every Thursday morning as WhereYat.com and Where Y’at Magazine bring the top picks of great things to do in the beautiful city of New Orleans.

Carnival season is in full swing, with Fat Tuesday just around the corner! Get ready for Mardi Gras Indian beats with a symphonic twist, a Krewe du Vieux watch-party, and even a Carnival festival: here are Where Y’at’s weekend picks!

Some of this weekend’s events include:

  • First, tonight at the Orpheum, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra joins Big Chief Juan Pardo for the premiere of the symphony Birth of a Culture. The concert celebrates the unique culture of Mardi Gras Indians and also includes Wynton Marsalis’ Blues Symphony.
  • Next, enjoy a family friendly day of Carnival fun at the free Algiers Mardi Gras Festival on Saturday at the Algiers’ Federal City. It starts with a parade followed by music and great food. Headliners include Amanda Shaw, the Brass-A-Holics, and others.
  • On Saturday evening, enjoy Krewe du Vieux with a world-famous Mother’s po’ boy. Krewe du Vieux, known for its political satire, starts in the Marigny, then rolls through the Quarter and into the Warehouse District, passing Mother’s…a great spot to grab a bite before or after the parade.
  • Finally, on Saturday evening head to Neyow’s in Mid-City for a Pelicans Watch Party, as the Pels visit Milwaukee. Enjoy Neyow’s delicious crab claws and signature Creole classics in a festive setting while the Pelicans contend for a playoff spot. Tip-off is 7 pm.

Keep an eye out, this weekend, for the new Mardi Gras edition of Where Y’at Magazine…on stands at over 650 locations around Greater New Orleans! Or visit WhereYat.com this weekend and click “Latest Issue” to read it online!
