Parade-goers party in French Quarter ahead of Fat Tuesday

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Fat Tuesday is getting closer by the day, and many have used the French Quarter as the highlight of their day before the parades.

“The activity that’s going around. All the people the bead throwing, the smell of the food is getting me, and you can’t go wrong with the drinks,” said parade-goer Keiasha Purvis.

While the famous drummers lined Bourbon Street performing, one group said the rich culture New Orleans has to offer keeps them coming back. This year, they were a part of the Krewe of Iris.

“It’s an honor to be able to do that and be included. We live in Birmingham. So, we love New Orleans. We love to come and show support. These are actually two New Orleanians who created these, so we just love to support them,” said parade-goer Jeana Lee Upton.

With Mardi Gras colors everywhere, some said there are multiple reasons Carnival season in New Orleans keeps people coming back every year.

“The fun, the activities, and definitely the food,” said Purvis.

“It’s different. Everybody is different. Everybody has their own vibe,” said parade-goer Hailie Fesel.
