Taylor Dayne talks headlining Orpheuscapade 2024 in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — 1980s and 1990s pop star Taylor Dayne will be performing at the Krewe of Orpheus‘ Orpheuscapade.

Dayne is best known for her songs, “Tell It to My Heart,” “Don’t Rush Me,” “I’ll Be Your Shelter,” “Prove Your Love,” “I’ll Always Love You” and “Love Will Lead You Back.”

WGNO’s Kenny Lopez talked with Dayne about performing at Orpheuscapade on Lundi Gras.

Dayne first played Orpheuscapade in 2010, and her love for Orpheus and New Orleans has led her back. Even before that, New Orleans has been proving its love for her since the late 1980s.

“The very first single I broke was ‘Tell It To My Heart’ and the first radio station that really supported me when it was coming out in the U.S. was in New Orleans. B-97,” she said.

Dayne’s had a successful career with several top 10 hits and a number one single, “Love will Lead You Back.” She said got her start in the New York City clubs back in the day.

“I wasn’t like I sat in my house and was songwriting. I was exploratory. I was very much experimenting. I was in bands, and I was out in clubs. I was seeing it. I was living it,” she said.

In the early 1990s, she remade Barry White’s “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love”.

“I’ll never forget I got a beautiful note from Barry White and a flower arrangement saying thanks for rediscovering and reawakening a new audience. Then we got to perform it live at a private event, and then we got to do it together at Jones Beach together before his passing. I got to sing it with the great Barry White, quite a magic moment,” she said.

In celebration of 35 years in music, Dayne released a new greatest hits deluxe album with all her hits and new songs.

Orpheuscapade will be at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, and the Krewe of Orpheus rolls through Monday, Feb. 12.
