Bayou Road: Old Spanish Customs House

NEW ORLEANS — Because Bayou Road was the first road of New Orleans, along its path is some of the oldest buildings in the city.

The Old Spanish Customs House at Grand Route St. John and Bayou St. John dates back to 1788, according to geographer Richard Campanella from the Tulane School of Architecture.

Campanella describes the features that show off the house’s age.
