NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)- October is breast cancer awareness month, and the American Cancer Society threw a fundraiser today to join the fight for a cure.

WGNO’s Kenny Lopez attended today’s “Eat, Drink, and Cure Brunch” at Harrah’s New Orleans.

The American Cancer Society, Harrah’s New Orleans, and New Orleans Fashion Week, teamed up for the brunch which honored breast cancer survivors, and helped raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign.

The event included entertainment from T-Ray the Violinist and the Rolling Elvi.   Guests were treated to a fashion show with high fashions from Fleur de Paris and a bedazzled bra auction, where local guys modeled the bras that Harrah’s employees created.

Paula Shamsie with The American Cancer Society New Orleans said, “Events like this not only raise money, but they create awareness for women to go out and get screened, for them to get their mammograms.  If they can detect it early, than the chance of survival is higher.”
