If you end up on the north shore, and are feeling the need for some heavy hitter poboys there is a place in Covington that can certainly feed your need. Bear’s Restaurant has been serving up a wide and tasty variety of poboys for quite some time. Owner, Josh Watson tells us that the restaurant has dabbled in other things, but poboys are what they have always done best.

Bear’s does a wide variety of sandwiches. They obviously do all the standards like roast beef (their top seller), shrimp and ham and cheese. They also do some signature poboys that  are both unique and outstanding. Examples are their homemade meatball poboy, their BBQ beef poboy and the Magnum. The Magnum is a combination of the BBQ beef, ham, cheese and grilled onions with an extra drizzle of the house-made BBQ sauce. WOW! This poboy is not for the faint of heart. This is one serious sandwich! I guarantee you that this thing will obliterate hunger. And the mixture of awesome flavors do it in style.

If you are looking for a great side to go with that poboy, may I suggest the potato salad at Bear’s. It is a very smooth potato salad, not your thick chunky variety. It is a deep yellow color, great taste and a velvety texture. If you are willing to walk on the wild side, try the potato salad topped with that smoky, sweet BBQ sauce. Look out, taste buds…

So get on over to Bear’s. They may have a bit of a line, but pack your patience because sometimes there is a crowd (isn’t that a sign it’s good) and prepare for a one of a kind poboy experience you won’t soon forget.
