Ponchatoula’s Warehouse 140 offers great grub in a cool environment

It’s a big festival weekend locally. The city has French Quarter Fest and in Ponchatoula they are having their iconic Strawberry Fest. It sounds like mother nature may play a part in this year’s event. If that’s true, I have a cool Ponchatoula spot that can keep you dry and fed. The place is called Warehouse 140  and the grub is some really great barbecue.

At Warehouse 140, there is ample seating in a clean wide-open dining and bar area. The fine folks here put plenty of attention to detail in the places design and decor. The food is as tasty as the environment is pleasant. Great barbecue is the centerpiece of a really cool menu at this restaurant. From ribs to brisket, to awesome and unique sides and starters Warehouse 140 delivers. Here are a few pics of some of the dishes we sampled for Devour Power’s trip to Warehouse 140.

The first item at this place that really caught my attention was Warehouse 140’s brisket, It had great texture, flavor and a nice charred crust from its rub after hours in the old smoker. I also liked the macaroni and cheese (I mean how can you not?), their chili which was mind-bending good, and their bread pudding. All of the stuff we tasted was great like their pulled pork Nachos (a monstrous portion). But I want to expand on a few of the favorites I mentioned.

Let’s start with the bread pudding. I know that everybody and their mother makes bread pudding down here. I am also keenly aware that not all bread puddings are created equal. The folks at Warehouse 140 are one of the restaurants that is succeeding with their rendition of this local classic. It comes out very warm with a generous amount of sauce. The texture is silky smooth. There was not one bite that was tough or dry. The flavor was outstanding. It really packed a punch of cinnamon. I swear I could have eaten three or four serving of this as a stand alone meal. WOW!

When it comes to a surprising first impression, Warehouse 140’s chili is a big time winner. A lot of times when you hear about chili at a barbecue place, you assume that it is gonna be of the spicy “5-alarm” variety. Not so at Warehouse 140. There were two things about this chili that made me smile. First, it was not a hot chili. This chili started out a touch sweet and then finished off with a bold tomato flavor. The second thing that really impressed me with this chili was that it wasn’t made with ground meat. Warehouse 140 uses their own brisket in their chili. The texture that the brisket brings to this chili is a winner for sure.

So, if the storm clouds send you running for cover in Ponchatoula this weekend, head on over to Warehouse 140. They have plenty of room and are ready to serve you their barbecue and anything else on their menu.
