NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)- Our Martha Spencer wears many hats, and while most often she’s telling us about the weather in Southeast Louisiana, she also loves to get out on the water.
Whether it’s free diving off the coast or fishing from a boat, she’s been doing it all her life.
“Well I fished for sunfish in this pond near my house when I was a little kid, but my first trip on a boat, I was about 9 and my dad had an off shore boat and he’d wake us up at 4 in the morning to go out to the Rhode Island Sound in the fall. and we’d do, sometimes overnight,” says Spencer.
Every fisherman has his superstitions, and for some the question of barometric pressure is one. I couldn’t let the chance of a trained meteorologist on board go by without asking, does pressure make a difference in catching fish?
Spencer says, “I think it does because when the pressure is high, it pushes fish down, and calms everything down but I think when the pressure drops, I think they can kinda sense it and and they want to eat because they know somethings changing”
And at that moment Martha landed the big one!
Martha Spencer’s instagram is filled with her fishing adventures.
