NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – It’s the catch of the season.  The Mystic Krewe of Nyx signature purses thrown out during the krewe’s parade.

They’re hand-decorated, nearly impossible to get and one of the top prizes of the Mardi Gras season.

This year, WGNO News with a Twist features guy Wild Bill Wood has a guaranteed, sure-fire way for you to take home a Nyx purse.

It is, however, a smaller version than the ones you get on the parade route.

But it’s a real Nyx purse.

And it comes from inside a king cake.

The cakes are being baked by Haydel’s Bakery in New Orleans.  Haydel’s made history back in 2010 by baking the world’s largest king cake.  It was 5,300 feet long.  It weighed in at 8,688 pounds.  And it wrapped around the Superdome! Twice!

For the last 26 years, Haydel’s has placed little treasures inside its king cakes.  This year, it may not be one for the record books, but it will be one for the collection shelf.

The Nyx purses are tiny and made of porcelain.  You can get one when you buy one of the 55,000 king cakes Haydel’s will make and bake this Carnival Season.

Prices start at $14,50.

If you’d like to order one and have it shipped to somebody,  go to Haydel’s Bakery website by clicking right here.
