Positive skywriting project launches T-shirts to raise money for more tours

T-shirts available to help fund more positive skywriting tours like those seen over Jazz Fest

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The popular positive skywriting project that writes words like “hope, coexist and love” in the sky over big events like Jazz Fest has become a little more grounded with T-shirts to spread the message and raise money for the cause.

New Orleans native Frank Scurlock started the skywriting project during Jazz Fest 2015 and continued with a flyover in Dallas before returning to New Orleans skies this year for Mardi Gras and the first weekend of Jazz Fest.

He’s trying to raise money for more tours – one in the Southeast over Jacksonville, Atlanta, Nashville and Memphis and another in the Northeast over New York, Washington and Baltimore.

“We want people to look up and see a ‘mirror in the sky’ reminding them of all the beauty that surrounds us,” project organizers said on their website.

T-shirts are now available for purchase online through Shine Spa in Mid City. A portion of all sales will go toward funding for the skywriting project.

Scurlock says it is a costly endeavor to write the words, which span for several miles in the sky.
