NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – So you love ice skating, but living in New Orleans? Don’t worry. We make synthetic ice here. Our ice hockey playing Twist reporter Jabari Thomas went to the Audubon Zoo to test it out.

He says it’s slippery than a real ice skating rink, and falling is weird because you expect it to be cold. But that hasn’t stopped locals and tourists from getting on the fake ice.

The plastic ice works just like a traditional ice rink and you use real ice skates.

So far the reviews have been  good.

“This is pretty amazing because it’s about 65 degrees and they are ice skating,” said one northerner.

The Audubon Zoo is holding their Snofari Adventure for friends and family.

Ice skating fees are $5 for members and $7 for non-members. Kids under 2-years-old get in for free.

The rink and other entertainment will be open through New Year’s Eve from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

On New Year’s Eve Audubon Zoo will also be holding a noon countdown for kids!
