NEW ORLEANS (WGNO)- The Stella & Stanley Shouting Contest took place in Jackson Square this afternoon to close out the 30th annual Tennessee Williams New Orleans Literary Festival.
Contestants took turns yelling “Stella” and “Stanley” to a panel of judges, which included celebrities Rex Reed and Dick Cavett this year. They yell “Stella” and “Stanley” to pay tribute to the famous yelling scene when Stanley yelled to Stella up on the balcony in Tennessee William’s classic play, “A Streetcar Named Desire”.
Out of all the screamers, one’s hit the right note with the judges. New Orleans actor, Joel Derby took home first place!
