What’s it like to own the biggest pool around? Ask a Covington man

COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) — Bernie Cyrus is known for his work as a musician, author, campaign manager, and now, ginormous swimming pool owner.

“It’s 40 by 80,” says Cyrus of the pool’s dimensions.  “It’s 130 thousand gallons.  That’s a lot of chlorine.”

Cyrus says he often swims in the pool alone, or his sons are known to fill it up with an occasional party.  But he gets the most satisfaction by inviting kids who might not have access to a pool otherwise.

“We’ve seen autistic children swim here.  We’ve seen a lot of underprivileged kids come here and swim.”

Cyrus bought the property more than a decade ago.  It has a spiritual history, but the pool was in need of work.

He and his brother, “…resurrected,” the pool, as he puts it.  And the religious reference may very well be appropriate. He also says the water is holy and has been blessed.
