NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – She was part of the group that brought us the number one hit “Chapel of Love,” as well as one of the most popular versions of the classic Louisiana song “IKO IKO.”
Joan Marie Johnson Faust, a founding member of the New Orleans girl group “The Dixie Cups,” has died.
Johnson died in New Orleans of congestive heart failure.
She was 72.
According to her obituary, the Dixie Cups got to the No. 1 Billboard spot by kicking the Beatles out of their own No. 1. spot.
In 2007, the Dixie Cups were inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.
