NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Master magician Andrew Basso stopped by the WGNO studio to demonstrate some of the tricks on display in his touring show The Illusionists.

Basso, a native of Italy, grew up idolizing legendary magician Harry Houdini, which led to his specialty in escapology.

While Basso is shackled underwater during the performances of the Illusionists, a Broadway show he stars in along with Dan Sperry, Kevin James, Ben Blaque, Colin Cloud, Adam Trent, Jeff Hobson, Yu Ho-Jin, and Darcy Oake, he performed some up-close magic in the studio.

Drawing from local traditions, Basso incorporated a voodoo doll into his tricks, along with an amazing card trick that had LBJ scratching his head.

The Illusionists opened last night at the Saenger Theater, and it runs through October 30. Tickets are still available.
