ARRL Field Day 2016

METAIRIE (WGNO)- Every year, over thirty-five thousand amateur radio, or ham operators as they are called, take part in the ARRL Field Day. It is the single most popular on-the-air event held annually in the U.S. and Canada. The event takes part on the fourth weekend of June, each year. The purpose is to highlight the many roles in amateur radio and to demonstrate how groups will perform in the case of an emergency. While some will treat it as a contest, other groups use the opportunity to practice their emergency response capabilities. For many clubs, ARRL Field Day is one of the highlights of their annual calendar.

Bryant Rascoll is just twelve years old, making him one of the youngest ham radio operators in the nation. He began getting interested in amateur radio when he was five years old, operating on a CB radio. From there, his passion grew and he got his ham license in 2015.
