Covenant House hosts annual Sleep Out

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Covenant House New Orleans hosted its annual Sleep Out to support homeless youth Thursday night (November 10).

145 people and eight teams participated in the event, raising more than $415,000.

The Sleep Out is a chance for people to come together to make an impact on the young people who live at Covenant House.

Participants sleep in a sleeping bag on a piece of cardboard in a parking lot or along sidewalk. According to the Sleep Out website, it’s meant to show the kids love and respect, “proving that you care enough about them to be uncomfortable for one night, to be vulnerable for their sakes.”

The money raise by those taking part in the Sleep Out helps keep Covenant House running and providing food and shelter for the youth.

Covenant House New Orleans is located at 611 N. Rampart Street.

According to the Covenant House website, the organization is the largest privately-funded agency in the Americas providing to homeless youth in 30 cities in six countries.
