NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Police Department announced Thursday, April 25 that an arrest was made in a fatal Algiers shooting.

According to officers, they arrested 32-year-old Nayiondra A. Woolridge in connection to a shooting in the 300 block of Ptolemy Street that left 25-year-old Brittany Ussin dead.

On April 22, NOPD officers responded to a call of a shooting in the area around 7:03 p.m. Upon arrival, officers said a woman, Ussin, was found suffering from a gunshot wound.

Ussin was pronounced dead on the scene.

A video posted on social media surfaced of Ussin allegedly getting attacked by a group of women.

During one part of the video, a loud pop can be heard.

Detectives determined Ussin was shot once. She was taken to a hospital where she died from her wounds.

“To hear a doctor come out and tell us, listen, we tried, you know, but we did the best we could do when she’s gone. That was the hardest thing to ever see and hear.,” said Michael Willis, Ussin’s uncle.

Willis said the fight should have been stopped, rather than recorded.

Further investigation led detectives to determine Woolridge was allegedly responsible for the shooting, according to NOPD officers, and a warrant was issued on a count of second-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault.

Woolridge was arrested on Wednesday, April 24 and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call NOPD Homicide Section detectives at 504-658-5300.
