BATON ROUGE, La. (WGNO) – A traffic stop on Interstate 12 in Baton Rouge led to the discovery of 48 meth infused candles valued at $5.1 million.

The Baton Rouge Police Highway Interdiction Unit stopped an El Expreso commercial passenger bus around 2:15 a.m. Thursday. While searching the luggage cargo area a narcotic’s K-9 discovered the meth candles in a suitcase.

Investigators say someone mixed meth in wax and disguised them as religious themed candles.

Authorities arrested the owner of the suitcase, 19-year-old Jose Antonio Rodriguez-Lara of Houston, Texas.

He is currently being held in the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail charged with distribution/manufacturing schedule 2 drugs.
