NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting in New Orleans East. It happened just after 4 a.m. Monday morning at Chef Menteur Highway and Old Gentilly Road.

Police say an officer pulled a suspect over for a possible license plate violation. As the officer approached the Mazda MPV, a shot was fired. Police say the officer fired back, killing the 33-year-old suspect.

After reviewing video from the dashboard camera and the body-worn camera, the Public Integrity Bureau had confirmed that the first shot fired in the incident came from the suspect. He shot toward the officer. Detectives recovered one casing from the suspect ‘s gun.

The officer then shot five times.

The Public Integrity Bureau, Independent Police Monitor, and Federal Consent Decree Monitor are investigating.
