SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — A Slidell man is facing multiple charges, including hitting a person during a police chase, according to the Slidell Police Department.

According to officers, on Tuesday, June 4, an officer was driving on Fremaux Avenue when 21-year-old Matao Palmer drove past him, allegedly going 70 miles per hour in a Nissan Sentra.

The officer turned on his lights and a police chase ensued. During the chase, officers said Palmer drove from Fremaux Avenue to Second Street, driving the opposite way on the road, allegedly striking a City of Slidell employee with the car’s side mirror.

Officers say the chase ended on Cousin Street and Pamer was taken into custody.

Palmer faces charges of reckless operation of a motor vehicle, aggravated obstruction of a highway of commerce, aggravated flight from an officer, negligent injuring, possession of marijuana and possession of Hydrocodone.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
