HOUMA, La. (WGNO) – A 46-year-old woman died early Mardi Gras Day when she was struck by a car outside a popular concert venue in Houma. Police say Rona Delatte from Cut Off, La. died at the hospital as a result of her injuries.
Shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday, authorities were called to the 200 block of Howard Avenue near The Music Cove in reference to a person who had been struck while crossing the street.
Police found Delatte, but not the driver who hit her. Witnesses on scene told police a dark-colored Honda Accord struck the woman and left the scene.
Police located the car near Sonny Street and Boudreaux Street. Shortly thereafter the driver surrendered to authorities. She is identified as 50-year-old Telisa R. Clark of Houma.
Clark was charged with hit-and-run. Police say alcohol is not suspected, but further investigation is being conducted.
Detectives believe the victim was crossing the street from the Music Cove when she was struck by Clark’s car as it headed South towards Tunnel Blvd.
