NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – After a month of legal moves, the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s office said it will not prosecute suspected murderer Robert Durst for state weapons charges against him. The DA will wait for a federal case to end before making a decision to prosecute.
In March, FBI agents found a .38 caliber handgun and nearly 5 ounces of marijuana in Durst’s downtown New Orleans hotel room. Those agents were arresting Durst on a murder charge. He is suspected of killing crime writer and longtime friend Susan Berman on December 2000.
Durst has already pleaded not guilty to the state and federal charges for the March 14 arrest.
Durst, whose real estate developer family is among New York’s wealthiest, has a net worth of about $100 million, court documents said.
