Dad throws infant running from cops, ‘He tossed the child as if it were a toy doll’

SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) – A suspected perfume thief is also accused of tossing his infant daughter to the ground in an attempt to escape police.

Employees at Ulta beauty store called police and reported a man who ran out of the store with bottles of fragrance.

Slidell Police later identified the suspect as 24-year-old Lamar Causey.

“They gave a description of a male subject who fled the store with over a thousand dollars’ worth of stolen merchandise,” says Chief Randy Smith.

Once outside in his getaway car, the suspect then change shirts and grabbed his 17-month-old infant, in what police believe was an attempt to throw them off.

“As the officers get close to identify him as the possible suspect he threw the child to the ground as if the child was a toy,” says Smith, who commends the two officers for acting quick.

One policeman chased after Causey while the other rushed to help the baby.

“The infant child was a female little girl that sustained minor injuries and was later checked out by EMS personnel and was not hurt.”

Causey’s daughter was taken by ambulance to the hospital but later returned to family, “It makes us concerned about that child’s safety, not only now but in the future,” says Smith.

Close to $1200 worth of stolen perfume and cologne was recovered from Causey who, while in custody, threatened Slidell Police.

“And says that his boys want to come over here from Baton Rouge and take care of business,” says Smith. “So that the led to another felony charge.”

After police say he robbed the store, Causey tacked on five additional felony charges including child desertion and cruelty to a juvenile.

He was a wanted man out of Baton Rouge for burglary.
