THIBODAUX, La. (WGNO) — It’s been two years since 2-year-old Ezekiel Harry died. On Friday, July 12, friends and family visited his grave to hold a vigil to honor his short life.
“It’s been a very hard time. Still a hard time,” Ezekiel’s grandmother, Cynthia Harry said.
“I mean, we go to church. We do a lot of praying. We just wish we could have him back,” Ezekiel’s father, Trey Harry said.
On July 12, 2022, Ezekiel was found dead in a trash can. It was later determined that he had died from severe blunt force trauma to the head.
His mother, Maya Jones, and her boyfriend, Jermaine Robinson, were arrested in connection to his death.
The family says the love and support they have received since that day have been nothing short of amazing.
“I truly, truly appreciate the community. I truly appreciate everyone. The prayers, coming by and visit, the checkups,” Trey said.
Prior to his death, his family says Ezekiel was a bright young child who was loving to everyone he knew.
“He was a very playful child. He loved playing with kids and everybody. Loved to give people hugs and kisses,” Cynthia said.
“He brought all the joy to all of us. I’ll never forget him,” Trey said.
With a court date set for later this month, the family is hopeful that justice will finally be served.
“I just want justice and to hurry up and get this over with so we can go on with our life, but it still isn’t going to bring our baby back,” Cynthia said.
