NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Former Orleans Parish Communication District Executive Director Tyrell Morris pled not guilty to charges related to a May 2023 crash involving a city-owned vehicle.

Morris appeared in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court on Wednesday, June 26, which comes exactly one year after he announced his resignation from the position last year.

He was previously indicted for malfeasance in office, false personation of a peace officer, insurance fraud and second-degree injuring of public records.

The charges come after the Office of the Inspector General conducted an investigation into the allegations against Morris. According to the OIG report, Morris operated and crashed a city-owned vehicle and “may have filed a false insurance claim and defense in connection with this accident.”
