LAPLACE, La. (WGNO) — Officers with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office are investigating a shooting that left a man dead in LaPlace on Thursday, Jan. 18.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office reported deputies responded to a report of gunshots heard near Captain G. Bourgois Street around 8:30 p.m.

At the scene, deputies found a man, identified by the SJSO as 36-year-old Kenneth Ray Paynes, suffering with multiple gunshot wounds inside a car.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
