Homicide investigation underway after woman fatally shot in New Orleans East

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Officers with the New Orleans Police Department are investigating a shooting that left a woman dead in New Orleans East on Wednesday, June 12.

The NOPD reported that officers responded to a parking lot of a business in the 10800 block of Chef Menteur Highway around 3:59 p.m., where they found an unresponsive woman with a gunshot wound.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the NOPD, officers detained a “person of interest for questioning in the incident.”

On Monday, June 17, the Orleans Parish coroner identified the victim as 28-year-old Coriana Leggett.
