TERREBONNE PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A Houma man was arrested after a traffic stop led to a drug bust on Sunday, July 14.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office reported deputies pulled over a car in the 4200 block of Highway 24 around 10:30 p.m. for a traffic stop.

During the stop, deputies spoke with 37-year-old Shawn David Jennies, who allegedly had a weapon near him during the stop.

According to the TPSO, Jennies was then told to get out of the car after “agents detected a strong odor of marijuana” coming from inside the car.

Jennies was taken into custody after making “several suspicious movements.”

TPSO investigators said it was later discovered that Jennies allegedly had a suspended driver’s license and was a convicted felon.

In a search of Jennies’ car, TPSO detectives said they found illegal narcotics, paraphernalia and a gun.

Jennies faces charges of reckless operation of a motor vehicle, driving under suspension, possession of CDS I, possession of CDS II, illegal carrying of a weapon in the presence of a CDS, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of domestic abuse battery and possession of drug paraphernalia.
