Ice cream truck driver pleads guilty to 2023 crash that left 12-year-old Kenner boy dead

KENNER, La. (WGNO) — The man accused of killing a 12-year-old boy after crashing an ice cream truck into a Kenner apartment building in 2023 has pleaded guilty.

Sources told WGNO News that 71-year-old Mechael Yousef Mansoor pleaded guilty to negligent homicide on Wednesday, May 29.

On May 20, 2023, Kenner Police Department officers responded to a call of a crash in the 300 block of Dartmouth Clemson Place, where the truck crashed through a wall, burying 12-year-old Adrien Flores under brick and debris.

Flores suffered multiple injuries and was taken to a hospital in critical condition while Mansoor suffered minor injuries and was treated and released.

Flores’ uncle, Joel Orellana, said in 2023 that his injuries were extensive.

“His brain is so swollen that no matter what the doctors do or what kind of treatment they give him, his brain is not going to make it,” said Orellano.

Days after the crash, Flores was taken off of life support and declared legally dead.

Initially, officers suspected Mansoor had suffered a medical emergency but later determined speed to be a factor in the crash.

On May 23, 2023, Mansoor was arrested and charged with negligent injuring and reckless operation of a vehicle. The charges were upgraded to negligent homicide.

The judge overseeing the case deferred a five-year prison sentence and sentenced Monsoor to three years of active probation.
