LACOMBE, La. (WGNO) — A laundromat in Lacombe, which was the scene of a recent crime, caught fire overnight.
According to officials with St. Tammany Parish Fire District 3, around 11:19 p.m. on Monday, March 11, firefighters were called to a business on fire in the 28000 block of Highway 190.
When they arrived, responders said there were smoke and flames coming from the roof of the building. They were able to get the fire under control by 12:13 a.m. Tuesday, March 12.
No injuries were reported from the incident.
Days earlier, a laundromat matching the same location, was the scene of a fatal stabbing.
Around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the location to find 40-year-old Nicholas Tranchant unresponsive and suffering from a stab wound.
According to deputies, a woman told them that Trachant attempted to sexually assault her with a sharp weapon inside the location.
Deputies said she fought back and used his weapon to stab him.
The woman and Tranchant were taken to a hospital where she was treated for her injuries, but Tranchant died from his.
STPSO deputies later released that Tranchant was once convicted in 2003 for incident behavior with juveniles, and in 2008 for attempted aggravated rape and aggravated burglary. He was released from jail on Dec. 21, 2023, and was required to register as a sex offender.
The Louisiana State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
