UPDATE, 4:18 p.m.: LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – Imagine there’s a knock at your door. You answer it, and there’s someone with a gun pointed at you. That’s what happened when a Lafayette woman was gunned down at her home on Wednesday night.
Lafayette Police say the shooting happened in the 100 block of Essie St. shortly after 9 p.m. A witness told police the woman answered a knock at her door, when she was shot and killed. The suspect got away.
“She was a good person. Always walking and going to Dollar Tree. She would stop and talk to us,” said neighbor Lorita Roy. “I’m so sorry that happened to her.”
Lafayette Police detectives were back at the scene, canvassing the neighborhood, the morning after the shooting
“We can’t open the door for everybody. No matter who you are. Let them know, but don’t open the door. She was by herself,” said Roy.
“There’s been a lot of this going on in the last year, and I don’t know what can be done about it,” said neighbor Murphy Lormand. “With what’s been going on around here you have to be cautious, and be very aware of your surroundings. Look first. Ask a lot of questions before the door gets opened.”
“I’m so sorry that happened to her God. I pray God they find out who did that to her. Oh God,” said Roy.
The victim’s name has not been released. There are no suspects, and no motive at this time. If you have information that would help investigators solve this homicide case, please contact Lafayette Police.
