ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Deputies with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office have arrested the man accused of kidnapping a baby in LaPlace.

According to deputies, on Tuesday, May 28, at 3 a.m., they responded to a call of a woman lying in the middle of the road in the 2800 block of Airline Highway.

Upon arrival, deputies found the woman suffering from several injuries to her body. She was taken to a hospital by an ambulance.

During the investigation, the woman reportedly told them that she was driving in the area when she was forced out of her vehicle by a man identified as 21-year-old Marquis Dunn.

Dunn allegedly drove off with the woman’s 8-month-old son in the back seat.

Cameras in the area were able to locate the vehicle and with the help of the New Orleans Police Department, the baby was located on Tuesday in good condition.

Through the camera footage, witness statements and additional information, detectives were able to identify Dunn and issued an arrest warrant.

Dun was located and taken into custody on Friday, May 31.

According to deputies Dunn confessed to the crimes and is now facing charges of simple kidnapping and second-degree battery.
