NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The man accused of a shooting near the French Quarter that left three people wounded has been arrested.

The New Orleans Police Department announced on Thursday, June 27 that 24-year-old Donnell Beard was arrested in Georgia.

An investigation revealed that Beard was wanted by NOPD officers after he allegedly shot at a group of people in the 800 block of Canal Street on May 23.

The shooting sent three men to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“We heard all of these shots. I mean, multiple shots. It was loud. You would think if it was going to be anything like that, you’d think night. But like you said, you don’t think about in the middle of the day in broad daylight like this. You just don’t think about that,” witness Bill Conklin said.

NOPD Captain Hans Gauthier said that it is fortunate that no one was killed or that any other bystanders were hurt but added that officers will be patrolling the area more often as the holiday season approaches.

Beard is set to be extradited to New Orleans in the coming weeks where he will face three counts of attempted murder and illegal use of a dangerous weapon.
